Conditions of the Competition

Format: 54 hole stroke play competition in the following divisions: Championship, Senior Championship and Members-Flighted. Players must designate on their entry in which division they will participate, and may not change divisions after the entry deadline.

Championship Division: Players competing in the Championship division will play all three rounds from the blue tees and compete solely within the championship division. The championship division will not be flighted.

Senior Championship Division:  Players competing in the Senior Championship division will play all three rounds from the white tees and compete solely within the senior championship division. The senior championship division will not be flighted.  Players competing in the senior championship division are not eligible to win the overall championship title.

 Members-Flighted Division: Players competing in the Members-Flighted division will play all three rounds from the white tees and compete solely within the members-flighted division. Flights will be established based on players 36 hole total score and may be adjusted with consideration of their current course handicap. Players will compete within their designated flight. The 54 hole total score will determine the winners of each flight. Third round score may only improve 10% over the average of the first & second round scores. Players competing in the members-flighted division are not eligible to win the overall championship title.

Eligibility: The Championship and Senior Championship divisions are open  to amateurs who meet the USGA definition of an amateur golfer and are residents of the state of Tennessee.  Participants in the Senior Championship must be 55 years of age or older on or before the start of the competition.   All applicants must be aged 13 years or older.  The Members Flighted division is for Music City Golf Association members only.  
Tees: Championship Division- Blue Tees; Senior Championship Division-White Tees; Members-Flighted Division- White Tees
Entry & Deadline: MCGA Member $110; Non-Member $160. Entry includes, green fees, range balls, and lunch for each round. Paid entries must be received by 5:00 P.M. CST Friday June 16, 2008. Field will be limited to the first 170 paid entries.
Starting Times: Will be post on mcgaonline.com, emailed, or you may call the Pro Shop 615-862-8493 beginning Monday June 18, 2008.
Ties: Ties for 1st place in all divisions will be decide by a sudden-death play-off immediately following play. All other ties will be settled by scorecard play-off, using the USGA recommended method (back nine total, back six, back three, hole by hole from eighteen backward, then by lot.)
 
Rules & Local Rules:
1.Play is governed by the Rules of Golf of the USGA, and where applicable, by the following Local Rules & Conditions of the Competition.
2.Specification of the ball (App.I,part C-1b.)
a.The ball the player uses shall be named on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the United States Golf Association.
b.During a stipulated round, a player may change types of balls between the play of holes.
A player must hole out with the ball played from the teeing ground unless a rule permits him to substitute another ball.
3.Clubs (App.II)
Maximum of fourteen clubs. All clubs must conform to USGA specifications.
4.Suspension of play (App.I,part C-4)
Discontinue Play: One prolonged note of siren.
Resume Play: Two short notes of siren, repeated.
5.Late to tee
Note under Rule 6-3 and Appendix 1 shall be in effect. The committee may provide in the condition of a competition that, if the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, in absence ofcircumstances which warrant waiving the penalty of disqualification as provided in Rule 33-7, the penalty for failure to start on time is two strokes at the first hole in stroke play instead of disqualification.
6.Cell phones
Cellular telephones are strictly PROHIBITED during the stipulated round. First offense-warning, Second offense-disqualification.
7. Embedded Ball (App.I part B-3)
Through the green, a ball which is embedded in its own pitch mark in the ground, other than sand, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole.
8.Hazards and Out of Bounds
Water Hazard - Yellow stakes & lines
Lateral Water Hazard - Red stakes & lines
Out of Bounds - White stakes & lines, Driving range fence to left of hole #1, and the road to the left of holes #9 & 10.
A ball which crosses a public road defined as out of bounds and comes to rest beyond that road is out of bounds, even though it may lie on another part of the course.
When out of bounds is defined by a line on the ground, the line itself is out of bounds.

9.Ground Under Repair

Ground under repair is mark by enclosed white lines. Washed out areas along the sides of the cart path, material piled for removal, holes made by a greenskeeper, irrigation lines , french drains, and old tree holes are ground under repair even if not marked. 

 Bunkers: Wood boards within a bunker are ground under repair.  Free drop within one club length of the nearest point of relief.  The ball must be dropped in the bunker.

10.Committee
Any dispute or doubtful point on the rules shall be referred to the Committee, whose decision shall be final. The committee consists of the Music City Golf Association Board of Directors and designated rules officials.
11.Code of Conduct
The behavior of contestants at Music City Golf Association events shall be observed by the Tournament Committee/Director. Any conduct which shows disrespect for the Tournament Committee/Director, rules violations, or traditional etiquette of golf shall constitute grounds for disciplinary action by the Board of Directors and/or disqualification from the tournament at the Tournament Committee's sole discretion.
12.Pace of Play
All players will be responsible for maintaining an appropriate pace of play. All groups must keep pace with the group in front of them. Pace of play will be monitored by on course rangers. Penalties for slow play will be accessed at the sole discretion of the Tournament Committee.
13.Close of Competition
A competition shall be deemed to have closed when the trophy has been presented to the winner or, in absence of a prize ceremony, when all scores have been approved by the committee.
14.Rangefinders 14-3/0.5
In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. Devices that measure other conditions that might affect play are strictly prohibited. Penalty for breach of Rule 14-3 is disqualification.

15. Integral parts of the golf course to include:Retaining walls and pilings when located within a water hazard or lateral water hazard.

16. Protection of Young Trees "Protection of young trees identified by a white enclosed line around the base- If such a tree interferes with a player's stance or the area of his intended swing, the ball must be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b (Immovable Obstruction). If the ball lies in a water hazard, the player must lift and drop the ball in accordance with Rule 24-2b(i), except that the nearest point of relief must be in the water hazard and the ball must be dropped in the water hazard, or the player may proceed under Rule 26. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Local Rule.

Exception: A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if (a) it is clearly unreasonable for him to make a stroke because of interference by anything other than the tree or (b) interference by the tree would occur only through use of an unnecessarily abnormal stance, swing or direction of play.
